PROFILE

About the Artist: Lana Rubin-Holman

From her early days growing up in Milwaukee, Lana Rubin-Holman was an avid painter and cartoonist, with expressionist-inspired works of depth and vivid color while also delighting classmates with whimsical drawings and caricatures of teachers. Pushed into other pursuits by the realities of life for the first part of adulthood, she is now finding her artist voice again in her second act.

Her work reflects her passions. She has always loved Milwaukee and her cityscapes allow her to share the special places and moments of her life in the city with all the original emotion and energy. She also loves Milwaukee sports and the Bucks in particular! Her joy for the game and talent for portraiture is evident in her pieces of local athletes, bringing iconic players to life with intricate light and shading.

As a Jewish woman, she has used her work to delve into the themes of identity, religious expression, and femininity. She explores these topics with the same intensity as she does the other subjects but with an "anything goes" mixed media approach that might find her combining acrylics, felt-tipped markers, and cut paper to produce her desired effect, and a push into more abstract artistic forms.

She currently resides in Milwaukee with her husband Eli and a surprisingly large number of children.
