The subject of today's portrait is third baseman Eduardo Escobar, a midseason addition to the Brewers who has brought his powerful bat and infectious positive attitude to a team looking for big things this postseason. Escobar, originally from Villa de Cura, Venezuela was drafted by the White Sox in 2011, and played for the Twins and Diamondbacks before joining the Brewers in late July. This year he has hit 28 home runs with 87 RBIs, offering extra punch to a lineup that was red hot in the second half of the season.

In addition to his play on the field, he is known for his love of the Brazilian Steakhouse Chain Fogo de Chão. While a Minnesota Twin, he noted a link between his on-field performance and his consumption of their food even coining the hashtag #fogopower to describe the effect. He has since become their unofficial spokesperson, given a special black card that allows him to eat for free at any of their establishments with special treatment for him and his guests. As his former teammate and fellow Venezuelan David Peralta described it, “Not even the president of the United States gets treated there the way they treat Escobar.”

To support his efforts here in Milwaukee despite the absence of a local Fogo de Chão, the CEO ran a special pop-up restaurant outside of American Family Field last Wednesday (September 22nd) that featured their meats prepared on an open flame using a mobile grill. As fellow lovers of churrasco, we are sorry to have missed it but are glad to have Escobar and his Fogo Power here for the playoffs.
